Check your tread depth
Tyre tread helps your vehicle grip the road, especially in wet conditions. UK law requires car tyres to have at least 1.6 mm of tread across the central three-quarters of the tyre around its full circumference. For added wet-weather grip, many drivers choose to replace tyres before they reach the legal limit.
Check more than one point across each tyre because wear can be uneven. If you are unsure how to measure it, ask a tyre professional to inspect them.
Look for damage and uneven wear
Cracks, cuts, bulges, exposed cords, or repeated loss of pressure can indicate a tyre needs immediate attention. Uneven wear may also point to incorrect pressure, wheel alignment, or another issue that should be checked.
Make regular checks part of your routine
Check tyre pressure when the tyres are cold and follow the vehicle manufacturer's recommended pressures. If a tyre looks damaged or the car feels different to drive, arrange an inspection rather than waiting for the next service.
