Put safety first
If you notice a puncture while driving, slow down smoothly and stop somewhere safe as soon as you can. Use your hazard lights where appropriate and follow your vehicle's instructions for a spare wheel or tyre repair kit.
Avoid driving on a flat or badly deflated tyre. Doing so can damage the tyre and wheel and may make the vehicle harder to control.
Not every puncture can be repaired
Whether a tyre can be repaired depends on the location and size of the damage and the tyre's overall condition. Damage to the sidewall or a tyre that has been driven while flat may make repair unsafe.
Arrange an inspection
A technician needs to inspect the tyre to recommend a safe solution. If a repair is suitable, it should be carried out using an approved method; if not, replacing the tyre is the safer choice.
